- Varnish.
- Wood screws of suitable size and length for the wood chosen.
(we used #4 x 5/8 threadfasts)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Trace patterns onto wood, cut out,and sand well.
- Paint all pieces as shown, or in your choice of colors.
- Flyspeck the pieces if you like that effect (slightly diluted paint spattered with an old scruffy toothbrush.)
- Allow pieces to dry thoroughly.
- Sand along all edges very well, and also lightly along all other surfaces to achieve an aged appearance.
- Varnish entire project and allow sufficient drying time.
- Use the antiquing medium to enhance the rustic look, and add another coat of varnish to seal.
- Glue pieces together, making sure they are square and aligned properly before the next step.
- Screw bookend pieces together, drilling a pilot hole first to avoid splitting the wood.
(upright piece butts up against bottom piece, it's not on top of it!)
This step is necessary if the bookends will be subjected to heavy use.
- Glue on some spanish moss on the birdhouses to resemble nests.
That’s it! Functional bookends with cute country style!
